To be or not to be...

To be a fashion icon is a dream of mine. To have what it takes to stand out from everyone else and influence others to do the same is an amazing thing. My fashion is heavily influenced by some fashion icons that are clearly fashion icons and others that haven't made the name but to me are equally as important. I take a little bit from each. To stand out or be a fashion icon I dont believe you have to dress all crazy like lady gaga, you just have to be able to change the way people think and do things, even if it is a small percentage of people.

Lady Gaga:

Lady Gaga is a walking piece of art. She goes where not many people are willing to go with fashion. The best part is, being best dressed or worst dressed she doesn't seem to care, she just keeps on doing her thing. Lady Gaga makes people think. Her clothes are soo crazy and not a whole lot of people actually like her style but she gets people talking.

Dorothy Gale:

She taught me that no matter what to follow your yellow brick road with your ruby red slippers.
When I was younger I was totally obsessed with the Wizard of Oz mainly because as a 3 year old I couldn't keep my eyes off of Dorothy's sparkling ruby red slippers. To this day I cant walk into a store and turn down anything that sparkles. I believe its ok to add a little sparkle to your wardrobe everyday (def in small measures). Your never too old for those ruby red slippers.

Barbie

Barbie taught me at a very young age how to mix and match, put this shoe with that shirt and throw in this purse. She always had the best outfits and the funny thing is I would never keep the outfit on that she came with. I always had to change it. Barbie is also one of those icons that comes with a dream attatched . She is the american dream. As a young girl you think well if she can be whatever she wants then so can I, and she will never tell you you won't ever be what you want.

Fashion Is My Drug... :)

The other day I was super bored and found myself wandering into the Salvation Army. I found two really cool t-shirts...one a D.A.R.E. and the other ACE Hardware...I decided they were just a bit boring...so I fixed them :)

Two...Is better than One

So last night was round two of Pamel's fashion show! This time we had an amazing show at the Gates a very night place to have a fashion event...It was a collaboration with Pamela's hand crafted designs and Lux Lux Vintage a collection of vintage T's and handbags. A lot of styling went into this show layering vintage T's with Pamela's designs.

The show was amazing...put together in one week...pretty impressive...

Empire State of Mind

Empire state building inspired bracelet. How to D.I.Y!

1. Collect all materials you think are cool (beads, sequins, ribbon, recycled pieces from old jewelry)
2. Make a little layout of what kind of pattern you think looks cool to you
3. Grab a needle and thread (for a longer lasting design) to sew together all the pieces
4. Now you have your own cool one of a kind cuff!

Happy Sewing!

Slippery Subway Grates

I have just started to create a new collection. The inspiration for this collection came from some lyrics from one of my favorite songs by Postal Service:
"Be Still My Heart"

I was running late for work
So I didn't change my shirt
The evening's drinks left a lingering taste in my mouth
And when I left
You were fast asleep
Tangled in the sheets
And on the bus I could have sworn it was all a dream
And it didn't happen to me

And then I felt the scrapes
From the slippery subway grate.
Oh how you laughed
At my complete lack of grace.
But I could not recall
A more perfect fall
Cause when I looked up into your eyes
It didn't hurt at all.

And I thought, be still my heart
This could be a brand new start, with you.
And it will be clear
If I wake up and you're still here with me in the morning.

And I thought, be still my heart
This could be a brand new start, with you.
And it will be clear
If I wake up and you're still here with me in the morning.

I used all spandex based fabrics with several different textures, mixing in 3D fabrics with mesh. There are other pieces to come I just havent had time to create them all yet. The collection due to the inspiration, has a very urban and punky look...the first three photos are my inspirational images!

Less is MORE, but MORE is fun

Layered bracelets are the hardest trend to ignore...it just looks sooo darn cool
but how to do it so it doesnt look like your just wearing one of those already made packs from H&M or Forever 21 (chinsy, cheap, and BORING not to mention everyone else is already wearing it).

My best advice is to avoid matching at all costs for a more fun and different look...
-Mix different textures (string, chain, beads, studs, etc. whatever your preference)
-Mix colors that dont match (try complimentary colors for a fun pop of color or play with the color wheel...its my best friend)
-Put on as many as you can (the more the merry)
-Don't buy all of the jewelry at the same store (try mixing lucky brand with forever21 and handmade pieces)

Here is some of my versions:

Pink studded bracelet from Forever21, silver bracelet from St. Croix, other 3 from union square artist

you can evern try the trend on your ankles -anklets made by me :)

red bracelet and blue beaded bracelet from tibetan jewelry store, hockey skate lace made by my sister :) , blue studded bracelet from forever21, and silver chain bracelet by Lia Sophia

you can even throw in a watch so your never late :)

pink toothbrush bracelet made by me, leather and crystals cuff by QVC

Some quotes that are my favorite...they inspire me to stay me...

"Carpe Diem" -seize the moment, life is too short to not take a risk
"Alis volat propriis"-she flies with her own wings, I have learned to always fly with my own wings, who cares what others think about you, they secretly wish they had their own wings too ;)
"Treat others as you would like to be treated"-I live by this everyday
"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams" -so true
"Good girls seldom make history" -even more true
"Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing"-everyday I live my life my own little mini adventure :)
"Every artist was first an amateur" -funny
"Life is never easy for those who dream, but the journey makes it worthwhile"

a little somethin, somethin :)

The aftermath of a hair that I had left over from the fashion show...we were messing around at work...and threw in a watch for the heck of it...

Also today I was out and about in the nice nyc weather and wandered over to St. Marks. I found a cool two finger ring at a crazy jewelry store Hottie (kinda cheesey but totally the whole east side vibe). But I have been looking all over for a two finger ring and haven't been able to successfully find one that fits my craziness...until I came across this...totally made my day :)

So in conclusion, this is my stare worthy outfit of the day (two color legged tights, purple converse, shorts, v-neck T, and blazer)...you know you have a crazy sense of style when you walk into the Starbucks that you go to everyday looking like this and the girl taking your order tells you that she loves your hair not noticing that sure you dress a little crazy but totally would never in your right mind do your own hair voluntarily like this...complimenting you that your always trying something different...haha...oh for the love of new york

Fashion, put it all on me...

Pamela's fashion show turned out to be totally amazing! All of the pieces were very unique and styled super crazy! You have to know my friend Pamela to truly appreciate this collection! A lot of time and hard work went into all of this and I give her a lot of props for putting together this amazing event!! Pamela my italian stallion, I LOVE YOU!!
