Le Center, MN

I got to do another cool photoshoot with Jenna while I was home! I loved how the last one at the county fair turned out...and we really had not much else better to do around here. We took advantage of all the cool broken down buildings in Le Center...who'd have thought it could be soo photogenic. Plus I figured what better place to have a photoshoot than my own hometown...So...here it is...:)
Thanks Jenna!! Your pics always turn out amazing!!

The Grass Is Greener...

Hello Le Center...ya haven't really changed much.

This week I have been relaxing at home in Minnesota. I came home for my sister's graduation from high school. I'm pretty excited that she will be moving out to New York this fall to go to school at Manhattanville college and play hockey! This winter should be fun going to her games :)

I even got the chance to go visit my old high school art teacher. I mean I had to go say hi and thank her! Without Gunderson I maybe wouldn't have even wanted to go into art and fashion.

I didn't do much on this trip home...just hung out with the fam...Tomorrow I head back to the Big Apple...well rested and ready for summer :) Maybe next weeked I can do a beach trip?

 shooting cans :)

my sister was a bit more of an achiever than me...

 home sweet home...

"I got a date with the Knight"

After my long day of wandering around Brooklyn I felt the need to come home and sew. I have been wanting to remake my final collection dress from college again but this time out of spandex. Since all the patterns were corrected soo many times until the fit was good I knew it wouldnt be too hard to get rid of the darts and use my fabrics :)

My final collection from college was inspired by the Knight's in shinning armor. I was at the met one day and for some reason when I went into the Knight section I knew that's what I wanted to use for my inspiration for my final collection. I was also obssessed with the song "Date with the Night" by the Yeah Yeah Yeah's...Thus my collection was born. I wanted the pieces to be really tailored and structured but yet simple...with textured fabrics. So I settled for a thin wool suiting in a blue greyed color and chocolate brown suede for the dress. I wanted the collection to be something that is timeless. I made this two years ago...but yet I can still wear it today and not look out of style.

Since I love the dress I decided to update it now to the fabrics I work with. Back in school we werent allowed to work with spandex at all...which is funny because we never really learned how to work with it...so why I decided to use that as my fabric of choice I have no idea...So here is the new and improved...and glittery dress :)

savage beauty

Over the weekend I went to the Met Museum to check out the Alexander McQueen exhibition they have going on there. OMG...words seriously can't describe how amazing it is...for one whole hour I died and went to heaven...and I wasn't even a hardcore follower of his. It wasn't just his fashion though that inspired me...He was actually quite the thinker and although he was a designer he knew way more about history and small details in his inspirations that most people over look. He didn't just get inspired for his collections he literally used every last detail for them. He had a lot of really awesome and deep quotes. Most people at the exhibit totally didn't even know what they were looking at...His stuff is seriously a work of art...He was able to turn his deepest thoughts into something amazing and different from any other designer out there. He wasn't out there to make anyone love him...he did what he wanted and if no one liked it he would just come out with something even more crazy and insane.
Here were some of my favorite quotes:
"Clothes and jewelery should be startling, individual. When you see a woman in my clothes, you want to know more about them. To me, that is what distinguishes good designers from bad designers. "

"You have to learn the rules to break the rules."

“There is no way back for me now. I am going to take you on journeys you’ve never dreamed were possible.”

"I’m a romantic schizophrenic"

"Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind..."

"I don't really get inspired by specific women. It's not like you see a beautiful woman and she becomes your muse. It's more in the minds of women in the past, like Catherine the Great or Marie Antoinette. People who were doomed. Joan of Arc or Colette. Iconic Women. "
