Licorice Stick Red

When I was younger I watched too much TLC Trading Spaces and got an idea to paint my bedroom licorice stick red and put all zebra accents. After years the color kinda stuck with me. Now I see my grandma's obsession with this fiery color. So it would be fitting of course for me to make a pair of Licorice Stick Red leggings...Why haven't I used red before?

"I got a date with the Knight"

After my long day of wandering around Brooklyn I felt the need to come home and sew. I have been wanting to remake my final collection dress from college again but this time out of spandex. Since all the patterns were corrected soo many times until the fit was good I knew it wouldnt be too hard to get rid of the darts and use my fabrics :)

My final collection from college was inspired by the Knight's in shinning armor. I was at the met one day and for some reason when I went into the Knight section I knew that's what I wanted to use for my inspiration for my final collection. I was also obssessed with the song "Date with the Night" by the Yeah Yeah Yeah's...Thus my collection was born. I wanted the pieces to be really tailored and structured but yet simple...with textured fabrics. So I settled for a thin wool suiting in a blue greyed color and chocolate brown suede for the dress. I wanted the collection to be something that is timeless. I made this two years ago...but yet I can still wear it today and not look out of style.

Since I love the dress I decided to update it now to the fabrics I work with. Back in school we werent allowed to work with spandex at all...which is funny because we never really learned how to work with it...so why I decided to use that as my fabric of choice I have no idea...So here is the new and improved...and glittery dress :)

Oh for the love of STRIPES :)

So, to add to my collection of slippery subway grates I made a pretty simple but yet cool and trendy skirt. The skirt is pretty basic but the cool thing about it is one side has horizontal stripes and the other side has verticle stripes. Since the skirt is made out of a spandex it doesnt matter how you wear it: frontward, backward, sideward. You could wear this dress everyday a different way and it will look like a different skirt! Cool right?

Also over the weekend I made a cool one shoulder dress out of the same fabric. The one shoulder has a cap sleeve in the fun stripe fabric to match the slanted lines in the skirt. The top of the dress is all black with a cute hot pink mesh insert. The dress is made out of very fun punky/rocker style fabrics but its a very classic silhouette making this a fun dress but also work appropriate :) This dress is possibly one of my favorites yet...inspired slightly by my final collection from college...with some similarities in the design just different fabrics. Below in one photo I have it worn with a blazer and the second shows the cute little sleeve :)

Fashion Is My Drug... :)

The other day I was super bored and found myself wandering into the Salvation Army. I found two really cool t-shirts...one a D.A.R.E. and the other ACE Hardware...I decided they were just a bit boring...so I fixed them :)

Slippery Subway Grates

I have just started to create a new collection. The inspiration for this collection came from some lyrics from one of my favorite songs by Postal Service:
"Be Still My Heart"

I was running late for work
So I didn't change my shirt
The evening's drinks left a lingering taste in my mouth
And when I left
You were fast asleep
Tangled in the sheets
And on the bus I could have sworn it was all a dream
And it didn't happen to me

And then I felt the scrapes
From the slippery subway grate.
Oh how you laughed
At my complete lack of grace.
But I could not recall
A more perfect fall
Cause when I looked up into your eyes
It didn't hurt at all.

And I thought, be still my heart
This could be a brand new start, with you.
And it will be clear
If I wake up and you're still here with me in the morning.

And I thought, be still my heart
This could be a brand new start, with you.
And it will be clear
If I wake up and you're still here with me in the morning.

I used all spandex based fabrics with several different textures, mixing in 3D fabrics with mesh. There are other pieces to come I just havent had time to create them all yet. The collection due to the inspiration, has a very urban and punky look...the first three photos are my inspirational images!
