It's what all the cool people are doing

It's what all the cool people are doing so why can't I?

Today while I was sitting at home on this rainy day I paged through blogs to try and find inspiration and to figure out what all these cooler blogs with like a million followers have that dressed2love doesn't have.

I came to the conclusion that most of my fellow bloggers that are famous post up the same pictures at one point in time. They talk about all the main fashion heads and models as if they know them. A small portion of them actually do know the people they are talking about. I came across a handful that were actually worth reading...those I find interesting and inspiring I follow. The readers all follow these blogs like it's some kinda bible...so I guess to get people to do that to mine I gotta sell out...

Maintaining a blog is like seriously a full time job. You sit there all day at your computer screen pouring your heart out to people and trying to get your talent noticed. When I got into blogging it was only to keep people updated on what I was doing...now it's like a baby to me. Everywhere I go, I got my camera in hand....I even have a tab in my cellphone posted as blog notes...where I write all my inspiration while I am out and about.

So here is NOT what I wore today...but maybe what I will wear tomorrow...I'm just putting it on here in hopes that this will be my big break post...haha just kidding :)

Teenage Dream

You think I'm pretty
Without any make-up on
You think I'm funny
When I tell the punch line wrong
I know you get me
So I'll let my walls come down, down

Before you met me
I was a wreck
But things were kinda heavy
You brought me to life
Now every February
You'll be my valentine, valentine

Let's go all the way tonight
No regrets, just love
We can dance until we die
You and I
We'll be young forever

You make me
Feel like
I'm living a Teenage Dream
The way you turn me on
I can't sleep
Let's runaway
And don't ever look back
Don't ever look back

My heart stops
When you look at me
Just one touch
Now baby I believe
This is real
So take a chance
And don't ever look back
Don't ever look back

We drove to Cali
And got drunk on the beach
Got a motel and
Built a fort out of sheets
I finally found you
My missing puzzle piece
I'm complete

Let's go all the way tonight
No regrets, just love
We can dance until we die
You and I
We'll be young forever

You make me
Feel like
I'm living a Teenage Dream
The way you turn me on
I can't sleep
Let's runaway
And don't ever look back
Don't ever look back

My heart stops
When you look at me
Just one touch
Now baby I believe
This is real
So take a chance
And don't ever look back
Don't ever look back

I might get your heart racing
In my skin-tight jeans
Be your teenage dream tonight

Let you put your hands on me
In my skin-tight jeans
Be your teenage dream tonight

You make me
Feel like
I'm living a Teenage Dream
The way you turn me on
I can't sleep
Let's runaway
And don't ever look back
Don't ever look back

My heart stops
When you look at me
Just one touch
Now baby I believe
This is real
So take a chance
And don't ever look back
Don't ever look back

NYC...only the tall survive

It's true. Only the tall can survive in this crazy city. So if your 5"5' like me...then you better learn to walk in heels.

I need these shoes in my life...

How to get inspired

Sometimes I get super inspired...stripes right now are really in and I love playing with vertical and horizontal stripes together.

To get inspired you should pick something in life that has some kind of value to you..it will be that much easier to find the inspiration and put all of your heart into it. Make sure to do a bit of research on the subject and also trends that are out and about right now. Then let your mind do all the work and go from there...just make sure not to bootleg the actual inspiration...there is nothing worse than just remaking something that's already been done...take bits and pieces to make your own twist.

Be inspired...

That's So Sketch

Before I went to the art institute for fashion design I had no idea how to sketch...what I am about to show you is slightly embarrassing, but the good thing is I only got a D in sketching my first quarter...and after that I was an A sketcher :P

this was my first sketching assignment...
and below is my new sketching skills

now I got a bit better :)

Life before spandex

Here's some of the older stuff I made back when I was in school...I guess I just thought I would post them up so they don't get lost in translation...plus it's kinda fun to pull up old stuff and go down memory lane.

Funny how back when I was younger my nickname was legs. Now years later I am making leggings. I guess ya gotta work with what ya got.

So, most people's question now is why did I decide to make leggings?

Well, it all started one night way before I even graduated from college. A friend and I were wandering around Brooklyn Heights by our dorm and I came across a giftcard on the ground. I don't know why I picked it up, but something told me to, so I did. It actually was an American Apparel giftcard and it had $50 on it. Sweet! So of course, I had to run to American Apparel right away and spend it. That was the night I fell in love...with leggings. I bought some cool black shiny looking ones. I was obsessed but my wallet couldn't afford such an addiction. $50 leggings is a lot of money when your going to school. I loved the quality and the fit of the brand. A lot of other leggings don't quite look the same after you wash them a few times.

After wandering around the garment district, I found out that I could just buy the fabrics and make the leggings myself! This is where my creations started to come alive. At first they started very simple and basic but with crazy materials. I then started to play around with adding zippers. However, in school I only worked with woven fabrics and had no knowledge in stretch, so I quickly noticed splitting seams. I had to make several pairs before I got it down. Everyone in the dorms always saw me sewing in the lounge and knew me as the sewing girl.

Overtime, my leggings started to get more and more complicated. I started playing with the idea of "What is a pair of leggings" and "what can I do to create my own identity?" I work with 3D and textured fabrics creating sort of illusions on the legs. On a daily basis it's completely normal for people to ask me if they can touch them. I found a way to make people question fashion. Something so simple, yet at the same time art.

Here's my first prototypes...

Sk8er Boi

Last night I saw Avril Lavigne while I was at a dinner at Abe n Arthurs in the Meatpacking. At first I was like wow she looks familiar...then I put two and two together. I always suck at spotting celebs. She def looks way prettier and rocker in person! I love her and her style. I don't care if people think shes a poser...I have loved her since the day I was in high school and heard Sk8er Boi. Too bad I wasn't really wearing rocker enough of leggings for her to see...

Later I saw her again at the club we were at called Simyone Lounge...Love you Avril...Stay Rocker...maybe one day she will wear a pair of my leggings :P

Somewhere over the rainbow...

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?
Here's all of our backstage access to the show...what happens behind the scene of fashion...hair, makeup, and lots of pics...
This is what our dreams look like...
